At Norsemen Deer Management, we believe experience should be shared. We commit to giving back to the deer-stalking community by supporting new and developing stalkers through practical training, mentoring, and Deer Management Qualification assessment.
We focus on building safe, competent and responsible practitioners by combining real field experience with recognised standards and good practice. Whether introducing someone to stalking, mentoring them towards greater independence, or supporting formal assessment, our aim is to help raise standards across the sector.

Introduction to deer stalking
Our Introduction to Deer Stalking is a practical course of approximately 3 hours, designed for beginners who want to understand the fundamentals of safe, responsible and ethical deer stalking.
The session combines theoretical presentation with practical training and covers deer species and behaviour, stalking techniques, firearms safety, shot placement, deer management principles, field safety and what to expect during a live stalking outing.
Participants also receive
practical instruction in rifle
handling and shooting
from a supported position,
followed by a simple
shooting assessment. You
will receive a certificate of
completion.
The objective is to provide a safe, professional and meaningful introduction to deer stalking — with an emphasis on fieldcraft, deer welfare, responsible management and good practice rather than simply taking a shot.

Pre-DSC 2 and PDS 2
assessment outing
Our Pre-DSC2 / PDS2 Assessment Outing is designed for stalkers who are preparing to move towards formal assessment and want an honest, practical review of their current standard.
The outing is conducted under normal field conditions and covers the key areas expected at DSC2/PDS2 level, including planning and preparation, safe rifle handling, stalking technique, deer identification and selection, shot placement, post-shot follow-up, gralloch, carcass inspection and hygiene.
The purpose is not to pass or fail the candidate, but to identify strengths, highlight gaps, and provide clear guidance on what to improve before undertaking a formal witnessed assessment.

DSC 2 and PDS Level 2
assessment
Our DSC2 / PDS2 Assessment Outing is a formal practical assessment carried out under normal field conditions against the requirements of the relevant qualification.
Candidates must demonstrate competence throughout the complete stalking process, including planning and preparation, safe firearms handling, deer identification and selection, stalking, shot placement, post-shot procedures, gralloch, carcass inspection, hygiene, and record-keeping.
The assessment is evidence-based and conducted to the recognised standard, and the candidate is expected to demonstrate safe, humane, and competent practice without coaching or assistance.
