Norsemen Deer Management is a Perthshire-based deer management, stalking and training business working with estates, landowners, outfitters, agents and individual stalkers across Scotland.

Deer stalking is an important part of that management, but it is only one part. Effective deer management starts with understanding the land, the deer population and the objectives of the people responsible for that ground. From there, the emphasis is on practical planning, appropriate cull levels, competent delivery, good record keeping and measurable results.

Professional Deer Management

We provide practical deer-management support for estates, farms, woodland owners and other land managers. This can include deer population assessment, impact monitoring, cull planning, Deer Management Plans, deer control, night shooting, operational procedures and ongoing management advice.

Our objective is not simply to increase the number of deer shot. It is to help landowners maintain deer populations at levels that are sustainable for the habitat, the deer and the wider objectives of the property.

Guided Deer Stalking

​

Norsemen also provides professional guided deer stalking in partnership with reputable estates agents and outfitters. Guided stalking is treated as a professional field activity, not simply an opportunity to fire a rifle. Every outing is built around safety, responsible deer selection, ethical shot placement and respect for the animal and the countryside.

We brief clients before entering the field and carry out appropriate rifle-handling and shooting assessments where required. The guide ultimately decides whether an animal may be taken and whether a shot is safe and appropriate.

Deer are wild animals, and we can never guarantee a shooting opportunity. For us, a successful outing is one that has been conducted safely, professionally and responsibly — whether or not a deer is taken.

Training and Mentoring

One of our priorities is helping new deer stalkers enter the profession and develop practical field experience. Formal qualifications provide an important foundation, but competent deer management also requires judgement, fieldcraft and experience.

Through introductory courses, mentoring and practical stalking opportunities, we aim to help new stalkers develop the skills and professional standards needed to become safe, responsible and useful members of the deer-management community. We also support candidates progressing through recognised deer-stalking qualifications and practical assessment.
